Sam O. Kimberlin
Mr. Kimberlin is chairman of the Development Board and serves as a consultant to Austin Trust Company. He is a former Assistant Attorney General of Texas, counsel to the Texas Banking Department and chief executive officer of the Texas Bankers Association. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Bankers Association and was chairman of ABA’s State Association Division. A past chairman of the Appraisal Review Board of the Travis Central Appraisal District, he is a member of the Advisory Council on Property Tax Consultants for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. He is a member of the board of Thornhill Securities, Inc. and the board of the Stephen F. Austin High School Continuing Education Foundation. He has also served on the Board of the Austin History Center Association. Mr. Kimberlin received his B. B. A. and L. L. B. degrees from The University of Texas and is a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking, Rutgers University.
Robert E. Askew, SR., M. D., F. A. C. S.
Dr. Askew is a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the Texas Surgical Society, the Singleton Surgical Society and the American Society of Abdominal Surgery. A past president of the Travis County Medical Society, the Ellis County Medical Society and the Singleton Surgical Society, he also served as chief of surgery and chief of staff of the Seton Medical Center. He is a member of the Board of Governors, American College of Surgeons, the Capital Area Radiation Center Board of Directors and the Seton Medical Center Development Board. He formerly served on the Surgical Editorial Board of the Texas Medical Journal and was clinical editorial consultant of the Journal of Infectious diseases. Dr. Askew received his B. A. degree from The University of Texas and his M. D. from the University of Texas Medical Branch where he was chief resident and instructor of surgery.
Truman Breed
Mr. Breed is the founder of Austin's most innovative family business, Breed & Company, with $10 million annually in sales through two Austin stores. In 1970, Mr. Breed, who was the youngest loan officer at Austin National Bank, purchased Everett Hardware on Guadalupe Street. Within a few years he moved the store to 718 West 29th Street and soon after changed its name to Breed & Company. He and his talented wife, Ann, broadened the business to include upscale housewares, gourmet cookware, fancy foods, imaginative gifts and a garden shop, while developing a complete and comprehensive inventory of hardware. Both sons, Greg and Jeff, work in the family stores. Mr. Breed is past chairman of Handy Hardware in Houston, a co-op with 725 hardware dealers throughout the South and $250 million in annual sales. He received his B. B. A. from The University of Texas at Austin and is a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking, Rutgers University.
Will Coates
Mr. Coates is a solo attorney and mediator specializing in personal injury and business trial litigation. As an attorney, he has represented in excess of 400 individuals and 25 corporations as plaintiffs and defendants. He has also mediated more than 1500 cases with a success rate of 92%. Prior to opening his own law and mediation practice, Mr. Coates practiced law at several large law firms in Austin, Texas. His corporate experience includes Human Resources, Corporate Counsel and CEO for several private companies.
He is an Advisory Board Member of the Longhorn Foundation Advisory Council of The University of Texas at Austin. He is a founding member of the Trinity Episcopal Elementary School and past president of the West Austin Youth Association. Mr. Coates received his B.B.A. from The University of Texas at Austin and his J.D. from St. Mary's School of Law.
Andrew C. Elliott
Mr. Elliott currently serves as Executive Director of the Fasken Foundation, a private philanthropic Foundation. Prior to that, he was President and CEO of RepublicBank Austin and Vice President/Regional Executive for Bank of America. He currently serves on the Board of the Bank of Texas, Austin, and is Treasurer of the Seton Fund Board of Trustees. Mr. Elliott received his B.B.A. from Texas A&M University and is a graduate of the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking in Dallas.
Stanley M. Johanson
Professor Johanson holds the Fannie Coplin Regents Chair in Law at The University of Texas School of Law where he teaches courses in estate planning, wills and estates. He is co-author of Wills, Trusts & Estates, a law school casebook used in over 120 American law schools and is the author of numerous articles on estate planning and drafting of wills and trusts. He is active in the American College of Trust & Estate Counsel, the American College of Tax Counsel and is on the Council of the Real Estate, Probate & Trust Law Section of the State Bar of Texas. Mr. Johanson is an honors graduate of Yale University and received his L. L. B. from the University of Washington, where he was editor-in-chief of the Washington Law Review. He received a Master of Laws degree from Harvard Law School. He is Of Counsel to the Houston law firm of Vinson & Elkins, L. L. P.
Monsignor Richard E. McCabe
Father McCabe is the founder and director of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Austin. He also founded Caritas, Caritas Clinic and Caritas Pantry in Austin, Waco and Temple, agencies to render emergency assistance to the needy; International Cooperatives, which has built 1000 low income housing units; and Austin Rehabilitation Center, Inc. He is proprietor of the Father McCabe Center, a halfway house, and Stratford House, an early release facility for alcoholic and addict offenders. In 1987, he was designated Monsignor by His Holiness, Pope John Paul II. Father McCabe was educated by the Jesuits at Regis College in Denver, the University of Detroit and Marquette University Graduate School. He has a Masters in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio.
J. Gordon Muir, Jr.
Mr. Muir is chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer of Bank of Texas and Texas Bankers, Inc. He has been in banking since graduating from the University of Texas with a degree in finance. Previously, he served as chief executive officer of Cullen Bank, Houston, and Cullen/Frost Bank, Dallas, and as a member of the executive committee of Cullen/Frost Bankers, Inc., San Antonio. He was president and chief executive officer of Texas State Bank, Austin, and was a National Bank Examiner. He is a graduate of the American Bankers Association Commercial Lending School. Mr. Muir served as chairman of the Texas Bankers Association in 1994-1995 and as a member of the Government Relations Council of the American Bankers Association in 1992-1994. He is a member of the Executive Board of the Capitol Area Council of Boy Scouts and previously was a member of the board of directors and executive committee of Sam Houston Council, Boy Scouts of America, Houston.
